Grandpa’s Glasses

Grandpa's Glasses9.0102

One night Grandpa went to bed. As usual he had put his glasses on the bedside table before he pulled the blanket over him and turned to sleep. This night something else happened. As Grandpa turned his blanket it got caught on the corner of the bedside table. Grandpa pulled hard on the blanket which caused the table to move. The movement was sufficient to for Grandpa’s glasses to slide of the table and to drop off the table and landed on the carpet next to Grandpa’s bed.

That night Mr Rat was on his normal rounds. He slipped through a hole in Grandpa’s back door, run through the kitchen to the dustbin to see if Grandpa has left some food for him. That night Grandpa has made himself delicious stew and had eaten all of it. Disappointed Mr Rat started to look for alternative food. Just then Mr Rat remembered that on occasions Grandpa will leave some dried fruit on his bedside table. He scurried down the hall to Grandpa’s room. Grandpa’s room door was closed. On a previous visit Mr Rat has made a hole on the bottom of the door just big enough for him to squeeze his head and body through.

There was no food on the bedside table. Mr Rat jumped down to the floor and landed on something hard. It was Grandpa’s glasses. Mr Rat was intrigued by the strange object and decided to investigate it further. It did not take Mr Rat long to realise that the strange object could be used to improve somebody’s eyesight. Immediate Mr Rat thought of his best friend Mr Mole. He has been complaining of his bad eyesight for a very long time. Mr Rat grabbed the glasses and run out of Grandpa’s room, through the hallway, through the kitchen out to Mr Mole home.

Mr Rat showed the glasses to Mr Mole and convinced him to put it on. Mr Mole smiled from ear to ear for it was the first time he could see properly. Mr Mole thanked Mr Rat and rushed off to his tunnelling operation. Mr Mole was the best tunnel digger in the hole of the farm field. With his new glasses he would become an even better tunnel digger.

But O-dear Mr Mole tunnels are warm and moist and within seconds Mr Mole’s glasses fogged up. The fogged glasses made him completely blind and soon Mr Mole tunnels became a total mess. It did not take Mr Mole long to really get frustrated with his new glasses. He dug a hole to the surface and through the glasses in Grandpa’s rose garden.

The next morning Grandpa woke up. He slipped his hand to the bedside table but could not find his glasses. He dropped his hand down to the floor to feel if his glasses have dropped to the floor but there was nothing. Just then the front door bell rang, it was Grandpa’s neighbour and in his hand he held Grandpa’s glasses. Grandpa’s neighbour went out to collect his morning news paper and saw something shiny in Grandpa’s rose garden.
Up to today Grandpa has no explanation of how his glasses got in the rose garden.
